True, Paphos in Cyprus is known among visitors who love to enjoy under the sun, the beach, and seeing the sea each and every day during their stay. However, reality dictates that it has something else, in fact, so much more to offer. Paphos is more than just a simple tourist attraction, which provides all of what a holiday maker would love to see.
The Other Side
Cyprus is known as a great place for individuals who consider themselves as nature lovers. As a matter of fact, it is even known as home to very shy and very rare wild sheep which is called a Moufflon. This breed is known for its uniquely magnificent curving horns. These animals, despite being known to roam really wild, can often be seen roaming around nearby the forestry station located in the Paphos Forest.Other wildlife beauties in the area are the visiting Green and Loggerhead turtles, which visit ashore in order to nest every year. These turtles are protected strictly in the area. This means that you if you decide to explore afield further aside from the standard sunbathing option and find these areas of un-spoilt locations, you may be able to encounter some frames on the beach warning you of these turtle nests, and reminding you not to disturb them.
If you are a bird watcher, Paphos is a good place for you as well. The island is a stopover for several migratory birds that are travelling from Europe to Africa due to the changing of the seasons. As a matter of fact, there are more than 300 various bird species that are recorded as seen in the island. The place also has two species, which are considered endemic in the coastal regions. They are the Cyprus Warbler and the Cyprus Pied Wheatear. The Griffin Vulture used to be a common sight here however due to threats; they have decreased to less than 50.
